About The Program

Langara College (EASE) SE Program offers a dynamic, interactive seven week program of business development targeted to business startup.

How Does The Program Work?

Training is customized to each individual business and includes computerized financial planning. Follow-up and support is provided throughout the year with peer support, one-on-one business consultations, networking sessions, group training and access to office equipment. The EASE board made of members of the community and business organizations to provide direction and hands-on support. Entrepreneurs from our program have received local media attention.

The Training Program

Over three hundred and forty new businesses have been launched since the program began in 1995, contributing $4.5 million to the economy every year. WHO MAY APPLY?Residents of Eastvan (60%) and Metro Vancouver (40%).

Application and Selection Process

  • Attend an information session.
  • Complete and submit the application forms provided at the workshop.
  • Meet with the staff at E.A.S.E. to discuss your idea in a personal interview.
  • Selection committee chooses 15 participants for each intake.

Selection Criteria

To qualify, you must:

  • Be receiving E.I Benefits when classes start, or be an E.I. Exhaustee, or be returning from maternity within the last 60 months;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada; present a sound business idea;
  • Demonstrate that you have the necessary skills, qualifications, and experience to make your idea work;
  • Start a new business, or take over an existing business in which you have no prior involvement;
  • Make a personal investment of cash, inventory, equipment, or borrowed funds. You must invest an amount EQUAL to $4,000;
  • Be prepared to work full time over the next year to get your business started;
  • Be prepared to complete the business plan within 10 weeks of starting the program.

When are Programs Held?

3 times a year: Jan, May, and October.
